Alan Smith – Creator of Ouchie Powder

Hi, my name’s Alan Smith and I’m the creator of Ouchie Powder.

Having spent the vast majority of my life working with my hands and being subjected to countless cuts, grazes, scrapes and nicks through the course of my work, I became very despondent with available methods of wound treatment.

Like everyone else who experiences a minor wound, my experience of wound treatment was generally running off to find somewhere to wash the wound, finding something to sterilize it with and then waiting around for the wound to stop bleeding enough to effectively apply a bandage. Given the frequency that this happened, I often found myself wondering why there isn’t a better way to treat wounds.

I knew there had to be a better way to treat wound, but it wasn’t until my work took me a sophisticated dairy processing facility that I had my lightbulb moment. Whilst working in a refinement area of the facility I cut my finger open. This section of the facility was where the byproduct of the processing method was delivered. The byproduct was a white powder and as I knew the powder would be thrown out due to the contamination of my blood, I continued to work. I carried on working until I had finished the job and noticed my finger was caked in the powder. I shook the excess powder off my hands and noticed that the wound has stopped bleeding and formed a scab. It appeared that the powder had absorbed and coagulated the blood at the wound site.

I bandaged my finger and two days later took it off and was absolutely amazed by how quickly it had healed. Somehow, the powder had not only helped rapidly coagulate my blood, but also contained properties that prevented infection. I immediately knew that this was the innovation I had been looking for all those years.

From that moment, I began researching the proprieties of the powder and with the help of Trinity BioActives, I began the process of scientifically testing and refining the formula that would become Ouchie Powder. With the formula perfected, the product was first trialed on animals with amazing results. Moving on to human trials, the results were again outstanding with significant and measurable healing experienced by all participants.

The Science of Ouchie Powder

Ouchie Powder is a pharmaceutical grade disaccharide sugar known as β-D-galactopyranosyl-(1→4)-D-glucose.

It is a naturally derived dairy by-product that has been refined into soft, fine, talc like powder. The dairy product from which Ouchie Powder is derived, are sourced from cows raised in one of the most pristine environments on earth. These picturesque pastures located in New Zealand are untouched by the overcrowded and over polluted cities that the vast majority of commercial wound management products are manufactured.

How does it work?

The ability for an individual’s body to coagulate blood and repair tissue can be affected by numerous factors such as infection, metabolic deficiencies such as diabetes, venous or arterial disease and variations in wound structure such as depth, size and wound location.

These healing factors have been perfectly addressed with Ouchie Powder. Wound location, wound shape and infection are addressed by Ouchie Powders ability to cover any shape or sized wound no matter where on the body it is located. The natural antibiotic properties of Ouchie Powder work to prevent infection while absorbing excess blood and instigating fast coagulation.

Ouchie Powder works to activate the coagulation cascade, stimulating blood platelets into forming an aggregated mesh of cross-linked fibrin proteins to form a clot and stop bleeding. The process is referred to as fibroplasia and Ouchie Powder has been proven to accelerate the healing process by stimulating fibroblast cells to enter the wound site and begin laying down an extracellular matrix of collagens, glycosaminoglycan’s, reticular and elastic fibers and glycoproteins which form the fundamental building blocks of skin repair.

Has the product been tested?

Independent scientific testing has been conducted by Trinity BioActives in New Zealand. Trinity Bioactives specialize in developing, testing and confirming the efficacy of human and animal nutraceuticals.

The testing on both human and animal skin cells was completed utilizing a modified TBL cell proliferative assay (SOP: TBL-XCP 7.0). Here, human skin fibroblasts were cultured to confluence in 24 well plates. Once confluence was attained, a circular wound was created (6mm in diameter) and the cells from within the ring were removed.

1mg of Ouchie Powder was applied to each plate and the reduced wound size was measured at 24, 48 and 72 hours. The results were as follows:

  1. 1mg of Ouchie Powder at 24 hours – Wound size reduction of 18.3%
  2. 1mg of Ouchie Powder at 48 hours – Wound size reduction of 89.4%
  3. 1mg of Ouchie Powder at 72 hours – Wound size reduction of 100%

All testing was completed in triplicate and tested against controls. The wound areas were measured both digitally and graphically. The results show a strong and significant promotion of wound closure and cell regeneration when compared to the untreated control which had not healed within the 72 hour time frame.

With live tissue culture proving the safety and efficacy of the product, Ouchie Powder was then tested on both animals and humans. Feedback provided from these test groups confirmed not only healing results replicated in the lab, but also some surprising effects on other conditions such as rashes, headaches and acne treatment. The significant impact that Ouchie Powder has made on these and other conditions, warrants further research and investigation and further testing will be conducted in the coming months to verify Ouchie Powders applications beyond the scope of wound healing.
